A Lesson Taught by a Pot of Uncooked Rice

A Lesson Taught by a Pot of Uncooked Rice Image by https://pixabay.com/ 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; Proverbs 3:5 (NKJV)           This afternoon, as my mom goes out to a nearby market place to pick up the goods that she bought, she still left me one single command, “as the rice hits the boiling point, turn off the stove. Just wait for me by then and it’s now my call.”           Being concern as I am, in my mind, I will just let the pot of rice to boiled then I will just lessen the heat so that it will be cooked just right, because that’s how I learned it and I know I am right. So I thought.           As my mom approaches home, she asked me if I turn off the stove. I said that I just lessen the heat by the time it boils. Then she explains to me that if I did it that way, the rice will be overcooked because of too much water in it that is yet to be evaporated by the heat. I need to turn off first the stove and let t

3 Learning Insights For You & Me

3 Learning Insights For You & Me

This might be a little bit late for August School Start-up but I believe that learning advice could be timeless and useful all-year round.
So here it is.
Culture wise, Philippines is still in the process of transitioning from a conventional educational system to widely adapt the more advance and widely accepted educational system in a global sense – that is from adopting K to 12 Curriculum, which now requires students to spend 6 years in high school, up to changing semester’s school start from the usual month of June to August. This is in order for us Filipinos to readied the younger generation’s upbringing in such a way that we are no longer, in any case, behind from other countries (Asia or the West) when it comes to learning and skills. Also, the changed of learning season will enable us to catch up internationally in a reel time environment, making room for international exchange students to easily adapt to our home country, and at the same time for Filipinos who studied abroad to adapt the same way. In a changing season in the tropics wherein June and July is the usual time period for rainy days and typhoons, this is also an advantage to maximize learning terms which were commonly shortened due to series of class suspensions, which I believe an on note learning from previous years’ experience.
It might be a little different environment to other countries or races, but one thing is true, wherever part you are in the world, learning should be and must be non-stop. It doesn’t even end in school. Learning continues as we enter the more profound professional world, even up to the time that we are now starting a family of our own or even we are now gray and old.
However, as we know, we spent almost all our younger years in school that it covers almost a third of our lives. School grounds is in admittedly our home of learning for almost two decades, next from our household, in exception though for some who are rather being homeschooled by their parents or private tutors.
Whether you are somebody who is about to start your school journey, or someone who is just recently finished schooling but has a future plan of continuing graduate studies, or could be you are a kindergarten, a grade schooler , middle schooler or high schooler, whatever level you are in your learning, let me give you a piece of advice that I learn when I was still on that same season as you are:

1.       This is the season of learning
Ecclesiastes 3:1 says that in everything there is a season and time for every purpose under heaven.
This is your learning time my friend. You can earn or roam the world or marry, but later. For now, enjoy the journey. As we try to keep up on rushing ourselves to grow up, we always forget how to treasure the present. Right after you finished school, you’ll soon realized how you wish to go back, because the real world won’t even dare give us a spare time to learn in our own pace but you’ll find that we have to keep up and learn things the hard way. If you are sensible enough to get every insights base on experience, then it is a good thing, but what if you are not? Then it will just be a brain drain. So why this learning season is important? Learning season give us all the time and space that we need to grow up and learn. It is a training season and during this period, all else doesn’t matter. Adults won’t bother. They will definitely be supportive to you during this time. They will definitely support you with all the resources that you need with all their means.
On the contrary, trying to study and learn on a normal studying environment when this season is already times up makes room for complain from others who don’t understand where your passion on learning is coming from. Also, as we grow, responsibility is also piling up and trying to balance our life on learning and answering to our duties give as a hand full of loads. For that reason, your time of learning is also being cut short.
In this learning season, try to understand things little-by-little. Spend time gaining the basic skills that you need. Most importantly, treasure every moment.

2.       Honor God during this season of learning
Ecclesiastes 12:12 says “ Of making many books there is no end, and much study wearies the body. Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter. Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.
You might agree to me on what I said in number one – that you have to enjoy and take your time learning all things that you need to know in career and in your life in general, but I might add to that – learning is not all that there is. Remember, schooling is just a season. It only comprise a third of our life. Being just a fraction means it is just a fragment of a whole – a bigger, wider and greater picture of a plan constructed by no other than our God. So, you have to remind yourself always, what is my purpose on studying these things. Our general purpose of course is to glorify the Lord, but the more specific and profound page on that is what your specific role is in this season. As a student and a child of your parents, what can you do to not only glorify the Lord in your life, but having these people that you love and care for to glorify the Father through you? That’s a simple question that requires an obvious answer. You study well, be obedient to all authorities in school and at home, as well as share the life of Jesus to every single person around you by showing them an example of character, attitude, of wisdom and of faith. It could be just putting a smile to people or could also be helping your classmates to study.

3.       Trust the Lord’s Plan to your Life.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and lean not may on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”
Do not stress yourself out on trying your hardest to grow up. Do not rush things. You could be bored at times during this pace. You could also be frustrated because you feel that God is letting you hibernate or be on a slow mo. No matter, remember that His ways is better than our ways. Maybe we cannot realize it for now, but for a genuine children, parents are always in advance. They know what is the best for you and me. They will halt you at times in order for us to avoid committing mistakes that we would soon regret. When we fall, they will help you to stand up. They love us more than we know and more than we love them. If earthly parents can do that, how much greater that love there is from our Father who is in heaven.
Sometimes, all we need is to stop and listen to His voice in order for us to know what should we and should not do
Also remember, just like Paul said in Romans 4, do not waiver and be fully convince that he will do whatever he promise because He who promise is faithful.

At this point in time, you might feel hopeful but at the same time anxious and tired, but don’t be. It is always a wonderful thing to learn new things, whether few or many. The most important is you are growing in knowledge. You’ll realized one day that all the learnings that you acquired today might come to handy and be useful in the future? Remember, King Solomon also once asked for wisdom from God, then the next moment he used that same wisdom to render a perfect judgment between two women who claims to be mothers of a same child.
Same thing for all of us. Continue learning as we discover the will of God!

Did you know that 1 out of every 5 Children all over the world are out of school? But we can still turn a new leaf and give this children a New Hope of Possibilities. . .

New figures on the number of children out of school worldwide reveal that despite decades of efforts to get every child into the classroom, progress has come to a standstill. According to data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), about 263 million children, adolescents and youth worldwide - one in every five - are out school, a figure that has barely changed over the past five years.

What Compassion Does?

SHARING A MESSAGE OF LOVE AND HOPE

For more than 65 years we have worked to develop children into all God intends them to be. We are advocates for children, working to release them from the shackles of poverty. Through a holistic approach to child development, we carefully blend physical, social, economic and spiritual care together…in Jesus' name. It is an approach that has been scientifically proven to be effective.
On average, a child we minister to spends 4,000 hours in safe, nurturing programs, is at least 50 percent more likely to graduate college and is 35 percent more likely to find white-collar employment as an adult.
Our response to a world in need filled with millions of children living in poverty is simple: Love like Jesus did. Serve in Jesus' name.
Children are particularly vulnerable to the physical threats of poverty as well as its emotional and spiritual messages of worthlessness. By working in Jesus' name we speak messages of love and hope.

EVERY PERSON MATTERS

We devote ourselves to helping children of all faiths, cultures, backgrounds and race without imposing any religious belief or conversion requirements upon them. Every person is of infinite value, every person matters. And every act of love and compassion has eternal value. That’s working in Jesus' name.
We offer our programs to the poorest of the poor, to the children in greatest need, without ulterior motive because we are a "love thy neighbor" ministry. We love God, and we demonstrate our love and live out our faith by extending care to others — in Jesus' name — irrespective of caste, creed, class or religion.
Jesus Christ is the core of our ministry. His life and teaching shape our programs. All aspects of our programs align with His teaching. Jesus' teaching guides how we love people, respect communities and cooperate with nations. We teach God’s Word but do not require any child to become a follower of Jesus. Jesus welcomed everybody, and we do too. That is loving and serving in Jesus' name.

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LOCAL CHURCHES

Our work in Jesus' name is performed in partnership with indigenous local churches. Local churches are best suited to address the holistic needs of the children in their communities because the churches are already located and involved in the communities. We believe that only churches working in Jesus' name can effectively deliver the whole-life care that children in poverty deserve and need to overcome the hopelessness and lack of opportunity poverty inflicts.
We rely upon and trust the ability of our church partners to create environments of unparalleled stability where children experience God’s love and acceptance in tangible ways. We, and our church partners, love our neighbors in age-appropriate, culturally relevant ways—never through coercion, manipulation or forced compliance.
Working in Jesus' name is not a platitude; it’s a strategy we’ve followed since Rev. Everett Swanson first created our ministry to children.

“This is how we know what true love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. (1 John 3:16) Laying our lives means sharing the very life of Christ. It is not only about preaching the word or quoting the scriptures, but becoming the living Word ourselves- the word who became flesh (John 1:14) like Jesus did. We could do that by doing little things into people surrounding our circle or getting involve for a higher cause. What are you willing to do to love God and other people?
